Ukraine to receive donations of generators, electrical materials and equipment

AS Sadales tīkls continues to communicate with colleagues in Ukraine's energy supply industry, and in response to their request, another set of donations has been arranged to help ensure energy supply in hostility-affected regions. Among the donations are various electrical equipment, including 11 transformers, specialised equipment units – two tractors, two tractor trailers and a loader, as well as two power generators.

The generators are a crucial donation to help ensure power supplies until the damaged infrastructure is repaired after targeted attacks by Russian troops on Ukraine’s crucial infrastructure left many of the country’s residents without heating and electricity. The specific power generators will be able to supply energy to approximately 150 households. Specialised equipment, transformers, and other electrical materials, on the other hand, are critical for Ukrainian energy specialists working on electrical network restoration.

“Having failed to defeat the brave Ukrainian soldiers on the battlefield, the Russian terrorist regime has turned its attention to Ukrainian civilians, their safety and security, as the primary target of barbaric missile attacks. Every day, Russia’s army of marauders and murderers attacks Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in an effort to deprive Ukrainians of electricity, heat and water. However, the Russian criminals will not succeed, and the determination of Ukrainians to defeat the enemy is growing. It is strengthened by the generous support of our Latvian friends! From the bottom of my heart, I thank Sadales tīkls for providing much-needed assistance to Ukraine by donating equipment for the restoration of the critical infrastructure of our electricity supply and for surviving the winter period,” says Ukrainian Ambassador to Latvia Olexandr Mischenko.

“Energy supply provides light, warmth, and is frequently a necessity for survival, so we support our Ukrainian colleagues whenever possible – both as an organisation and through the initiative of employees, for which we are sincerely grateful. For donation, we chose older but functional specialised equipment units, generators and transformers that have been replaced by more efficient equipment and systems in our organisation. Ukrainian energy specialists have also previously worked with the same models of equipment, which means they will be able to use them immediately after receiving them, as no special training will be required,” says Sandis Jansons, executive director of Sadales tīkls.

The donation is being delivered to Ukraine by the charity organisation Ziedot.lv – the first shipments were sent at the end of December, and the next ones left this week. Employees from Sadales tīkls and Latvenergo also participated in the voluntary donation campaign to help cover the costs of donation delivery. A total of 4,740 euros has been donated for this purpose.

Since the start of the war in February 2022, Sadales tīkls has been in contact with colleagues in Ukraine. In response to a request for help, 49 transformers and 10 quadricycles were donated to Ukraine last May. Employees of the company have also helped transport the families of energy workers from war-affected regions to Latvia. Accommodation options are also provided in collaboration with representatives from Madona, Aizkraukle, Augšdaugava municipalities and Daugavpils City.
