Approximately 90% of customers of Sadales tīkls AS are already using smart meters, which remotely record 94% of the total power consumption in Latvia and simultaneously offer customers access to detailed data on their consumption. 33% of the residents who have smart meters installed are already using these data to review their power consumption habits or to pick the most suitable electricity tariff plan. In addition, approximately 18% of the people surveyed are planning to start doing this in the near future, as indicated by data of the survey carried out by Sadales tīkls in cooperation with the research centre Kantar.
According to the results of the survey, the option to analyse power consumption is used more rarely by either residents who are financially well-off (with income of at least EUR 1,001 a month per member of the family) or seniors in the age of 65–75 years old.
When asked about the reasons for not following their power consumption in detail, most respondents (81%) replied that they don’t have the necessity or desire to do it, whereas 14% indicated that they don’t do it because they don’t know how.
“Smart meters offer customers the possibility to receive hourly data on their power consumption and understand their power consumption habits. In this way, customers can “catch” excess power consumers, for example, devices still plugged in when not being used, or pick the most suitable and cost-efficient electricity tariff plan,” Sandis Jansons, Chairman of the Management Board at Sadales tīkls, elaborates.
Customers of Sadales tīkls can acquire detailed data on their power consumption by turning to their electricity supplier or by connecting to the customer self-service portal e-st.lv. These data can be accessed by customers who already have smart meters installed. All customers of the company can receive smart meters free of charge until the end of 2022.
Sadales tīkls publishes the first open data set for innovation development
The availability of real power supply data is a prerequisite for innovation development, therefore, as the holder of electricity market data, Sadales tīkls has published the first anonymised power consumption and generation data set (sample), which will be useful for researchers and scientists, as well as start-ups of the power supply industry – for the improvement of existing solutions and development of new ones. The data set can be downloaded for free on the company website
This data sample reflects real technical information while anonymising customer identification parameters. Sadales tīkls plans to gradually add to the anonymised data sets to facilitate the innovative development of the industry.
About the survey: It was carried out in cooperation with the research centre Kantar in October 2021 by surveying 1000 residents of Latvia aged 18–75.
